Virgin River fans’ best shows to watch before season 6 – including one by the same author
The highly anticipated sixth season of Virgin River may still be several months away, but there are plenty of shows out there to help fans through the hiatus.
Virgin River fans have selected a long list of similar shows to watch while the lengthy wait for the Netflix show’s sixth season stretches on.
New episodes are expected to drop by the end of the year, but that could still mean the hiatus could continue until November or December.
Thankfully, there are plenty of similar shows for impatient viewers to get stuck into.
One of the shows suggested by viewers even comes from the mind of Robyn Carr, who wrote the original series of books Virgin River is based on.
Many of them are also available on Netflix, so fans should have no trouble finding the perfect replacement while they wait for Mel Monroe (played by Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson) to return to screens.
A new fan of the show recently posed the question after recently becoming “addicted” to Virgin River.
Posting to Reddit, they admitted: “I have a love hate relationship with this show, I never usually watch soap opera type shows with this insane drama but somehow I’ve become addicted.
“I’ve flown through the seasons while I’m crocheting a massive blanket thats going to take forever to finish and am currently on season 5 episode 10. Any recommendations for what I should watch next?”
Another fan was quick to respond: “Hart of Dixie, Sweet Magnolias, Heartland, My Life with the Walter Boys.”
Hart of Dixie is currently available to stream in the UK on ITVX, while the rest are all on Netflix.
One user described Heartland as “the best family show ever!!!”
Another replied with the suggestion Sullivan’s Crossing, which is based on another series of books by Robyn.
It was co-produced by the Canadian network CTV and The CW and is available to stream on YouTube TV in the UK.
Fans warned the original poster that Charmaine star Lauren Hammersley also makes an appearance in the series, though they were assured she’s “not annoying”, a common complaint from Virgin River enthusiasts.
Also proposed in the comments was the NBC family drama This Is Us, which is currently streaming on Disney+ in the UK.
And another replied: “Fire Country – small town in CA. There’s some danger, heroes, and lots of relationship drama.”
To which someone else responded: “EXCELLENT show. I just finished season 1, some similarity to VR with the scenery, and Bode (Max Thieriot) is gorgeous!!!”
There’s plenty on offer for fans of small-town drama, but can anyone live up to Jack and Mel’s whirlwind romance?
