Will Trent isn’t going anywhere. ABC has decided to greenlight its gripping procedural for a third season, thanks to Season 2’s strong ratings in its first few episodes.

According to Deadline, the show recently had its highest-rated episode ever with the March 5 episode, “You Don’t Have to Understand,” from Season 2.

The show was similarly renewed early for a second season after its first season was the top new drama in terms of viewership with nearly 10 million viewers.

Will Trent is a police procedural with a unique twist: The eponymous character (played by Ramon Rodriguez) is dyslexic and therefore has difficulty reading at a speed. However, that doesn’t stop him from becoming the highest-rated member of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation; In fact, he seems to have a unique gift for understanding the minds of victims in order to solve ongoing cases, whether it’s murder, kidnapping, or any other case.

Erika Christensen also stars in the series as his on-again, off-again best friend Angie Polaski, who works in the police homicide division. Iantha Richards plays Faith Mitchell, Will’s reluctant partner whose mother’s career has ended due to an investigation. Sonja Sohn plays Amanda Wagner, the head of the GBI task force, and Jake McLaughlin plays Michael Ormewood, Angie’s partner who is struggling with some confusing issues at home while also trying to solve crimes.

Will Trent returned for a second season on February 20 and will continue next week with “We Are Family,” a segment that reunites Will with a long-lost relative (presumably the nephew he spoke to on the phone at the end of this week’s episode) while the GBI and the Atlanta Police Department team up to solve the judge’s murder case.
