Fans fear for Preacher and Kaia’s future after spotting worrying trend
The much-anticipated sixth season of Virgin River could spell trouble for Preacher (played by Colin Lawrence) and his newfound love interest Kaia Bryant (Kandyse McClure).
Devotees of the Netflix series are eagerly awaiting the return of the beloved small-town drama’s latest instalment, which is set to deliver defining moments for Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge) and Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), as they gear up for their highly anticipated wedding.
While the spotlight couples brace themselves for matrimonial bliss, Preacher finds himself amidst a blossoming romance with Kaia following Paige Lassiter’s (Lexa Doig) exit with her son Christopher (Chase Petriw).
However, echoing Preacher’s past complicated love life, his current affair with Kaia hangs by a thread, potentially facing more tribulations in the upcoming season.
Kaia, who battles blazes as a firefighter, faces constant peril due to her profession’s demands, always being on standby for urgent situations, reports the Mirror.
Moreover, despite turning down a role in Alaska to become Virgin River’s new fire chief, unforeseen calamities could sweep her away at any moment.
A concerned fan voiced their apprehension regarding the couple’s stability on Reddit, lamenting: “Man, I really like this character. He’s such a good guy.”
They continued, expressing frustration: “And man he is just used by every woman he comes in contact with except the one that had healthy boundaries and that he pushed away.”
Displayed too is the fanbase’s division over Preacher’s rapid succession from Paige to Kaia, with some fans resonating with the Reddit user’s critical viewpoint.
One viewer expressed doubts about a character’s return to the popular series, stating: “I doubt she’s going to be coming back. But it’s crazy that he’s pushed away the only healthy relationship that we’ve seen him in in the entire show,” before sharing a gloomy outlook on the future of a romance in the storyline.
The same Virgin River fan also suggested an imminent closure to a subplot: “The situation with the firefighters most likely about to wrap up,” they said.
The commentary went further by highlighting a concerning behavioural pattern in a character: “He goes for pretty much unavailable women.”
They pointed out that Preacher’s interest seems to lean towards women engulfed in turmoil, using Paige’s predicament with her ex-husband’s twin as an exemplar.
Moreover, show enthusiasts still feel disgruntled by the abrupt exit of Julia (Lucia Walters), Preacher’s brief love interest from season four, which lacked a substantial narrative justification.
With expectations hanging in the balance, viewers are hopeful that the sixth season of Virgin River will address past disappointments and solidify the relationship between Preacher and his latest romantic prospect, Kaia. The anticipation is high for a resolution by the year’s close.
