Surprise! ‘Virgin River’ Season Six Is On The Way Soon

Mark those calendars, because Virgin River is finally returning.

Season five of Virgin River left fans on the precipice of one of the biggest—and most abrupt—cliffhangers in recent television history. Luckily, it turns out we might get answers a little sooner than originally planned.

The sixth season of Virgin River is set to premiere on December 19, according to Deadline. This is ahead of what was expected to be a 2025 return.

And, in even better news, all 10 episodes of Season 6 will be available that day. A perfect early Christmas present for fans of the soapy Netflix series.

In addition to resolving a real cliffhanger, as we previously reported, the upcoming season of Virgin River is going to tell more of Mel’s story. In the season five Christmas special, Mel, played by Alexandra Breckenridge, learned about her biological father, Everett Reid.

As showrunner Patrick Sean Smith told Deadline, the upcoming season will explore “who Everett Reid is, what his backstory is, what his connection to Virgin River was when he met her mom and then also what it is today; the relationship of Everett with the town as well as Everett and Mel.”

The new season will also set up the story for an expansion of the Virgin River universe, as the streamer is developing a prequel series. That new show will reportedly tell the story of Sarah, Mel’s late mother, and Everett. Jessica Rothe and Callum Kerr have been cast to play Sarah and Everett in season six and, if all goes according to plan, they will star in the forthcoming spinoff which will revolve around their story.

In addition to Mel’s origin story, courtesy of Netflix, Deadline has a sneak peek at some other big storylines from the upcoming season, including a glimpse of Preacher and Kaia as they prep for his trial, Lizzie and Denny awaiting a bundle of joy, and the folks recovering from all the big reveals and heartbreaking moments that came in the Season Five finale.
