“Blue Bloods Spin-Off Struggles: Fans Left Waiting for CBS Decision”

Blue Bloods was axed earlier this year but the cast and fans have been vocal in their desire for a spin-off – however, CBS bosses have admitted they are struggling to come up with an idea

Blue Bloods enthusiasts were left feeling a bit deflated after receiving an update on the status of a possible spin-off series.

After the CBS drama was axed last year, star Tom Selleck insisted it wasn’t the final curtain call.

Chatting with CBS News, the Magnum PI icon expressed his confidence that “CBS will come to their senses” and reverse the cancellation decision.

“We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night,” he said.

“All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me!”

Despite the show’s continued success, which would typically set the stage for a spin-off or sequel, CBS execs seem to be at odds over what direction to take.

A concept focusing on Danny Reagan (played by Donnie Wahlberg) was ditched, according to Deadline, and fans might have to bide their time before any concrete plans are unveiled.

David Stapf, president of CBS Studios, informed Deadline: “We don’t have anything that’s going to be in development soon, but it’s a brand, a title and a show that is beloved.”

Even though Blue Bloods has seen a slight dip in viewership recently, its latest seasons still managed to attract nearly 10 million viewers per episode.

This, of course, means there’s a huge audience expecting any new project to match the high standards of the original series, adding to the already high stakes.

“We’ve got to get it right, so we’re taking our time and trying to figure it out, ‘OK, what is the next iteration of Blue Bloods?’” Stapf continued.

“We have a whole season to go where we intend to celebrate it all season long… so there’s still time for us to figure that out.”

Amy Reisenbach, CBS Entertainment president, also echoed the network’s decision to conclude Blue Bloods.

“We love this cast, we love their passion for the show,” she expressed in May.

“All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December.”

While this might not be the news Blue Bloods fans were hoping for as they anticipate the final season in September, they can take comfort knowing the franchise will eventually carry on in some capacity.
