On Monday, Courteney Cox, 58, who played Monica Geller on the beloved sitcom, was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She was joined by fellow cast members Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow, one of the first times they have been seen together since the HBO reunion special in May 2021.
But where were the boys? Missing in action were Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer who made up the rest of the original six cast members of the hit NBC 90s show.
Yet Cox was far from unsupported: alongside Aniston and Kudrow, she was joined by her long-time friend Laura Dern, who gave a speech, her partner, Snow Patrol frontman Johnny McDaid, and 18-year-old daughter Coco Arquette.
In a moving tribute to the actress, Aniston said: “We’re very honoured to be here today to speak on your behalf as your co-workers, your friends, and your family, your sisters. And that’s happened since we’ve known you for a very long time.”
“It’s been that way since we met almost 30 years ago,” Kudrow agreed before Aniston chipped in with the joke: “No, not 30 years ago. That’s a typo.”
She continued: “To be friends with Courteney is to be family with Courteney. She is responsible for all of that. From the beginning of when we met her, she was immediately inclusive, warm, loving, interested in everything about you.”
They reflected on the first time they first met Cox, who was the most famous of the show’s young cast, and how she “hated” playing poker which they were encouraged to do to break the ice.
Alongside Friends, Cox’s screen credits include a role on the 2010-15 raunchy sitcom Cougar Town as well as the part of Gale Weathers in the long-running Scream franchise. She has been part of the series since 1996, and will return for next month’s Scream VI.
Cox is the 2,750th person to be honoured on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
