Blue Bloods season 14 continues this fall with the final episodes of CBS’s hit Friday night drama

Blue Bloods season 14 has come to an end… well for now. The season 14 midseason finale aired on May 17 with the first part of the season coming to a close, but there is some good news for fans: Blue Bloods will be returning in the fall with what will be the show’s final episodes.

As the summer goes on, we’ll get more and more information about the final episodes of the season but there is a bit we already know about what’s to come when Blue Bloods returns this fall!

There are 8 episodes left this season

Unlike many shows this season which have had shorter seasons consisting of 10-13 episodes, Blue Bloods season 14 will consist of 18 episodes total. The first ten episodes of the season aired across the spring and the final eight episodes will be coming in the fall. Those last eight episodes will be used to tie up the show’s run and the writers are going to have to find a way to tie up the show’s core storylines in a way that will give fans closure and honor the series’ amazing run.

Blue Bloods season 14 returns in the fall

While we don’t yet know when exactly Blue Bloods season 14 will return, we do know that the show will be coming back in the fall and will remain in the closing timeslot on CBS’s Friday night schedule at 10/9c. Given we know that the show will be airing its series finale sometime in December, it seems likely that CBS will once again look to kick off the season sometime in late September or early October.

If we had to guess, it’s likely that the final eight episodes will begin sometime in early October as most recent seasons of Blue Bloods have kicked off in the first or second week of October.

Blue Bloods season 14 will be the show’s last

Sadly, CBS doesn’t seem to want to budge on the decision to end Blue Bloods and is adamant about ending the show with its fourteenth season.
During a press conference timed to the CBS Upfront presentation, CBS Entertainment President Amy Reisenbach made it clear that the network has heard the cast’s pleas to continue the show and that they love their passion, they don’t have any plans to reverse the show’s cancellation.

“We really want to thank the cast and crew, everyone involved in the show. We absolutely will miss the family dinners. It is important to give the show the sendoff it deserves. We love this cast, we love their passion for the show. All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule. We are going to end the show come December.”

The cast are still fighting to save the show

While CBS seems set on ending the show, the cast behind the series continue to fight the cancellation decision and are rallying for the show to continue beyond season 14.

Among the most vocal members of the cast pushing back against the cancellation is Tom Selleck who is not ready to walk away from the show. As he bluntly told CBS News in an interview in May, he’s holding out hope the network will come to its senses and finally reverse its decision.

“I will continue to think that CBS will come to their senses,” Selleck said in an interview with CBS News. “We’re the third-highest scripted show in all of broadcast. We’re winning the night. All the cast wants to come back. And I can tell you this: we aren’t sliding off down a cliff. We’re doing good shows, and still holding our place. So, I don’t know. You tell me!”

Shemar Moore campaigned just as hard to save SWAT and it worked at the end of the day with CBS reversing its cancellation, so only time will tell if Selleck can convince the CBS brass to change their minds. We’ve still got a few months before the show’s series finale airs, so we’ll see if the cast will be able to convince CBS to reconsider its decision to end the show.
