Blue Bloods Spinoff Will Not Star Donnie Wahlberg, Probably Won’t Happen For a Long Time

We have bad news for folks who are still mourning CBS’ baffling decision to cancel Blue Bloods.

Last month, we reported on the news that a Blue Bloods spinoff appeared to be in development.

Our report was based on remarks made by Paramount co-CEO Brian Robbins during a shareholders’ meeting.

“In TV, new franchise extensions are coming for Dexter, Billions, and Blue Bloods,” Robbins said at the time.

We had known about Dexter: Original Sin for quite some time, but this was the first that anyone had heard about a Blue Bloods spinoff.

Needless to say, excitement among disgruntled fans quickly reached a fever pitch.

And while Robbins didn’t offer any specifics, it was widely assumed that CBS would have something on the schedule for the fall 2025 season.

Now, however, it looks as though those assumptions were premature.

According to a new report from Deadline, a spinoff centering on Donnie Wahlberg’s Danny Reagan character “did not materialize.”

It’s unclear why the project was shelved, but currently, there’s no replacement in the works, and no timeline for a Blue Bloods spinoff.

“We don’t have anything that’s going to be in development soon, but it’s a brand, a title and a show that is beloved,” CBS Studios president David Stapf told Deadline.

“We’ve got to get it right, so we’re taking our time and trying to figure it out, ‘OK, what is the next iteration of Blue Bloods?’”

Stapf went on to claim that for the time being, network execs are focused on the upcoming final episodes of Blue Bloods, rather than their plan for what to do when the show ends.

“We have a whole season to go where we intend to celebrate it all season long… so there’s still time for us to figure that out.”

Meanwhile, despite fans’ efforts to save the beloved series, CBS Entertainment President has confirmed that the slate episodes debuting this fall will be the the show’s last.

“We love this cast, we love their passion for the show. All shows have to come to an end. It’s important to us to refresh the schedule,” Reisenbach said in May.

“We are going to end the show come December.”

Well, it’s nice to know that they’re taking their time to get it right.

But something tells us Blue Bloods diehards won’t be thrilled with today’s update.

What do you think, TV fanatics? Is CBS dropping the ball here?
